Our Services

Microwave Testing

Microwave leakage testing to ensure workplace microwave ovens are safe for continued use.

Overview

What is Microwave Testing?

Our microwave testing service measures microwave radiation leakage from workplace microwave ovens to ensure they are within safe limits. Over time, door seals, hinges, and cavities deteriorate, potentially allowing harmful microwave radiation to leak. We use calibrated microwave leakage detectors to measure radiation levels at multiple points around the door and compare results against the AS/NZS 60335.2.25 safety limit of 5mW/cm².

Why It Matters

Why Microwave Testing matters

Prolonged exposure to microwave radiation can cause thermal injuries and other health effects.

Damaged door seals are invisible — the only way to detect leakage is with calibrated equipment.

Employers have a duty of care to ensure workplace equipment is safe for continued use.

Testing takes just 5 minutes per microwave and provides immediate results.

Common Faults

What we commonly find

These are the most common faults found during microwave testing inspections in Perth workplaces.

Damaged door seal

Risk: Microwave radiation leaking above safe limits.

Microwave removed from service.

Worn door hinges

Risk: Door not closing properly, radiation leakage.

Hinge repaired or microwave replaced.

Reduced power output

Risk: Magnetron failing, uneven heating, potential safety concern.

Microwave recommended for replacement.

Food residue buildup

Risk: Seal contamination causing localised leakage.

Cleaned and retested.

Inspection & Testing Intervals

Recommended inspection and testing frequencies based on AS/NZS 3760 for different workplace environments and equipment types.

CAUTION

This information should be read together with the AS/NZS 3760 standard as a whole, particularly Clause 2.1. Inspection intervals vary depending on equipment type and operating environment.

Repaired, Serviced & Second-hand Equipment

After repair or service which could affect electrical safety, or before reintroduction into service, refer to AS/NZS 5762.

Important Note

Inspection frequencies depend on equipment type, condition and working environment. Hostile environments require more frequent inspection and testing.

Always refer to AS/NZS 3760 or contact our team if you are unsure which interval applies to your workplace.

Our Process

How Microwave Testing works

Our streamlined process ensures every microwave testing engagement is efficient, thorough, and fully documented.

Step 01

Visual Inspection

Door seals, hinges, latches, and cavity inspected for damage or food residue buildup.

Step 02

Leakage Testing

Calibrated detector measures radiation at multiple points around the door.

Step 03

Power Verification

Actual output power measured against rated power to detect magnetron deterioration.

Step 04

Tagging & Reporting

Results recorded, tags applied, and compliance report delivered.
