Why Test & Tag?

Safety isn't optional.
It's the law.

Protect People

Prevent electrical injuries and fatalities by ensuring every appliance is safe before use.

Reduce Electrical Hazards

Identify faulty equipment before it causes fires, shocks, or equipment damage.

Meet AS/NZS 3760

Full compliance with Australian standards for in-service inspection and testing.

Digital Compliance

Real-time dashboards, automated reports, and complete audit trails for every asset.

How the Process Works

From inspection to digital compliance.

Every appliance follows the same five-step journey — from the bench to your compliance dashboard.

Step 01

Equipment

Every electrical appliance is identified and logged into the system with a unique asset ID.

Step 02

PAT Tester

Professional testing equipment checks earth continuity, insulation resistance, and polarity.

Step 03

PASS Tag

A compliant safety tag is attached showing test results, date, and next inspection due.

Step 04

QR Asset Label

A unique QR code links the physical asset to its digital compliance record.

Step 05

Digital Record

Full inspection history, technician notes, and compliance status stored securely online.

Electrical Tests Explained

Six tests. One standard.

Every appliance undergoes a comprehensive testing regime as defined by AS/NZS 3760.

Visual Inspection

Physical condition of appliance, cable, plug, and connectors

Catches damage before it becomes a safety hazard

Technicians examine the entire appliance for signs of wear, damage, or deterioration including frayed cables, cracked plugs, and exposed wiring.

Earth Continuity Test

Resistance of the earth path from appliance to plug

Ensures fault current flows safely to earth, preventing electric shock

Measures the resistance of the protective earth conductor to ensure it can carry fault current safely.

Insulation Resistance Test

Insulation between live parts and earth

Detects degraded insulation before it causes short circuits or fires

Applies a test voltage to check that insulation resistance exceeds 1MΩ for Class I appliances.

Polarity Test

Correct wiring of live, neutral, and earth connections

Incorrect polarity can cause shocks and equipment damage

Verifies that the active and neutral conductors are connected to the correct terminals.

Leakage Current Test

Current leaking from appliance to earth

Excessive leakage can cause electric shock or trip RCDs

Measures the earth leakage current to ensure it falls within safe limits for the appliance class.

Functional Test

Appliance operates correctly under normal conditions

Confirms the appliance is safe and fit for intended use

Operates the appliance through its normal functions to verify safe operation.

Every Safety Test Explained

Understanding every electrical safety test.

During every Test & Tag inspection, multiple safety checks are performed depending on the equipment being tested. Each test has a specific purpose to help identify electrical faults and improve workplace safety.

01

Visual Inspection

Before any electrical testing begins

What it checks

Physical condition of appliance, cable, plug, and connectors

Why this test matters

Catches damage before it becomes a safety hazard — the first line of defence.

What happens if it fails

If damage is found, the appliance is immediately removed from service and tagged as failed. It cannot be reconnected until repaired or replaced.

02

Earth Continuity Test

Confirming the safety path to earth

What it checks

Resistance of the earth path from appliance to plug

Why this test matters

Ensures fault current flows safely to earth, preventing electric shock.

What happens if it fails

A failed earth continuity test means the protective earth path is broken. The appliance poses a serious shock risk and must not be used.

03

Insulation Resistance Test

Verifying protective insulation integrity

What it checks

Insulation between live parts and earth

Why this test matters

Detects degraded insulation before it causes short circuits or fires.

What happens if it fails

Low insulation resistance indicates current is leaking through degraded insulation. The appliance must be removed from service immediately.

PASS / FAIL result

04

Polarity Test

Ensuring correct wiring connections

What it checks

Correct wiring of active, neutral, and earth conductors

Why this test matters

Incorrect polarity can cause electric shocks, equipment damage, and fire.

What happens if it fails

Incorrectly wired appliances can energise metal parts or bypass protective devices. The appliance must be rewired before reuse.

PASS / FAIL result

Compliance history stored

05

Leakage Current Test

Measuring unwanted electrical current

What it checks

Current leaking from appliance to earth during operation

Why this test matters

Excessive leakage can cause electric shock or nuisance tripping of safety switches.

What happens if it fails

High leakage current indicates insulation breakdown or component failure. The appliance requires repair or replacement.

PASS / FAIL result

Compliance history stored

06

RCD Testing

Verifying safety switch performance

What it checks

Trip time and trip current of residual current devices

Why this test matters

Confirms safety switches disconnect power quickly enough to prevent fatal electric shock.

What happens if it fails

An RCD that trips too slowly or not at all cannot protect against electric shock. It must be replaced immediately.
