Electrical Testing & Compliance Services
Test & Tag Aussie provides onsite electrical testing, test and tag and related compliance services for businesses across Perth and the surrounding service areas — with clear records from every visit.
What We Do
Electrical testing built around your equipment and workplace
Every workplace relies on different electrical equipment — from laptops and kitchen appliances to power tools, machinery and safety switches. The right testing approach depends on what you use, where you use it and the records you need to keep.
Our electrical testing services cover the full range of onsite work: portable appliance testing and tagging, RCD and three phase testing, microwave leakage testing, and the reporting that ties it all together. You choose what your site needs — we test it, document it and keep it visible.

Core Services
The testing and tagging work most workplaces need first — portable appliances, safety switches and common equipment tested onsite.
Management
The records side of compliance — asset registers and reporting that make results easy to find and act on.
Platform
Digital tools that give you ongoing visibility of test status, history and upcoming work across your sites.
Why It Matters
Why businesses use our services
Know the equipment on your floor is safe to use
Electrical testing identifies damaged cords, worn plugs and equipment that measures outside safe limits before it becomes a problem for your people or your operations.
Records that stand up to scrutiny
Every visit produces clear results, a full asset register and next test dates — so compliance questions are answered from documentation instead of memory.
Ongoing visibility between visits
Digital reports and QR asset tracking keep test status, item history and upcoming due dates accessible, whether you run one site or many.

Retest Periods
How Often Does Electrical Equipment Need to Be Tested?
There is no single retest period that suits every workplace. Test and tag frequency depends on where and how equipment is used — the right interval for one site can be wrong for the next, even within the same industry. Getting test and tag frequency right is one of the most common questions we hear from Perth businesses.
When planning electrical equipment testing for Perth workplaces, the interval can depend on:
- the workplace environment
- how the equipment is used
- whether cords are regularly flexed or exposed to damage
- whether the environment is hostile
- the type of equipment
- applicable standards and workplace requirements
AS/NZS 3760 provides testing intervals for common situations, while construction and demolition environments can have additional requirements under AS/NZS 3012. The test and tag intervals and retest periods below are typical guidance — depending on the environment and equipment, the appropriate schedule can be shorter or longer.
Common test & tag intervals
Indicative intervals for common equipment and environments — general guidance only, not a blanket rule for every item or workplace.
| Environment / Use | Typical interval |
|---|---|
| Construction & demolition | 3 months |
| Factories, workshops, manufacturing, maintenance & fabrication | 6 months |
| Commercial cleaning equipment | 6 months |
| Equipment/cord exposed to flexing, abuse or hostile conditions | 12 months |
| Residential-type accommodation areas | 2 years |
| Low-risk environments where equipment is not regularly flexed, abused or exposed to hostile conditions | Up to 5 years |
Hire & serviced equipment
Equipment that is hired out, repaired or serviced is handled on a case-by-case basis — no fixed retest period applies to every item.
| Equipment | Typical guidance |
|---|---|
| Hire equipment | Inspection before hire, with the test and tag interval applied according to the applicable requirements for the equipment and its use. |
| Repaired or serviced equipment | Testing may be required after a repair or service that could affect electrical safety, or before the item is reintroduced to service. |
RCD testing intervals
RCD (safety switch) testing is kept separate from normal appliance test and tag. RCD push-button testing and operating-time testing have their own schedules and should not be confused with the normal appliance testing interval.
| Workplace | Common schedule |
|---|---|
| Construction & demolition sites | Daily push-button test · 3-monthly operating time test |
| Factories & workshops | 6-monthly |
| Offices | 12-monthly push-button test · 2-yearly operating time test |
Indicative only — confirm the schedule that applies to your equipment and site. Detail on our RCD testing service page.
Testing intervals can vary depending on the equipment, how it is used, the workplace environment, applicable standards and site requirements. A site-specific assessment should be used to determine the appropriate testing schedule.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
How often should equipment be tested and tagged?
Testing frequency depends on the environment. Construction sites: every 3 months. Factories and warehouses: every 6 months. Offices and retail: every 12 months. Hostile environments require more frequent testing than benign environments.
What happens when an item fails testing?
Failed items are immediately tagged with a FAILED — DO NOT USE label, removed from service, and documented with photos in your compliance report.
Do new appliances need to be tested and tagged?
New equipment does not require formal testing before first use, but a visual inspection is recommended. The first formal test is due according to the AS/NZS 3760 schedule for your workplace environment type.
How long does the testing process take?
A typical office item takes 2-3 minutes to test. Power tools and extension leads may take 3-5 minutes. For a standard office of 50 items, expect approximately 2-3 hours. We provide accurate time estimates when quoting.
What is an RCD?
A Residual Current Device (RCD), also known as a safety switch, automatically disconnects the electricity supply when it detects an imbalance in current, indicating current is leaking through a person. RCDs can disconnect power in as little as 30 milliseconds.
How quickly will I receive my report?
Reports are delivered within 24 hours of testing completion. You will receive an email notification when your report is available in the online portal.
